Hosted by the City of Rotterdam and the University of Applied Sciences, the first official SACRED meeting was held from 12th to 14th November 2024!
SACRED is the abbreviation for Sharing And Caring for at-Risk Elderly with Dementia or Disabilities.
The initiative aims to create an E-Learning Platform for healthcare students and professionals, focusing on caring for older adults with dementia, and multiple forms of disabilities (multimorbidity). The project leverages digital tools to provide accessible and comprehensive education for preparing (future-)caregivers across Europe with best practices and evidence-based knowledge for immediate and long-term improvements in elderly care.
For the kick-off meeting, the 10 organisations of the consortium came together to discuss the project process and the various work packages. The meeting took place at the University of Applied Sciences and Veldacademie in Rotterdam.
All organisations got to know each other more closely and were introduced to the advisory board, which consists of various experts who will monitor and support the success of the project. Finally, the consortium also gained practical insights on how to deal with dementia, where we spoke to the organisers of dementia-friendly exhibitions at the Natural History Museum in Rotterdam. As a further item on the agenda, the consortium received a practical presentation from Vincent van Meijenfeld, who, as the director of a care facility in Zeeland, reported on the relevance of tailored care for people with dementia according to the so-called STIP method.
In summary, the meeting showed the great potential of the project as well as the high motivation of the whole consortium. The kick-off event set the stage for SACRED’s ambitious goals: fostering collaboration, exploring evidence-based practices, and creating practical solutions to improve older adult care across Europe!
