About the SACRED project

The SACRED project is fueled by the recognition of a critical gap in the current healthcare education system regarding the care of older people, particularly those with dementia and disabilities or comorbidities.

The increasing prevalence of dementia across Europe, coupled with the diverse needs of older people with dementia, disabilities or comorbidities, necessitates specialized knowledge and skills among caregivers. SACRED‘s motivation stems from the urgent need to address these challenges through innovative educational approaches.

The project is designed to provide accessible, comprehensive education, preparing caregivers across Europe with best practices and evidence-based knowledge for immediate and long-term improvements in elderly care.

Context

As Europe’s population is growing older, there is a noticeable increase in the number of older people experiencing dementia or various forms of disabilities. The number of people with dementia in the EU is estimated to be 7.8 million and is expected to increase to 14.3 million by 2050.

As there is a critical shortage of qualified healthcare professionals specialising in dementia or disability care, there is a consequent and urgent need for a well-trained workforce.

Project Objectives

SACRED aims to offer a scalable and sustainable solution that can be implemented across Europe to improve the quality of life for older people by improving the competency of those who care for them.

Target Groups

SACRED aims to improve the situation for (future-) personnel. In this context, we aim to target directly:

  • Healthcare professionals
  • Healthcare students
