đź’ˇ The SACRED project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, aims to strengthen the skills of healthcare students and professionals working with older people living with dementia and multimorbidity. At its heart sits the project’s main deliverable: a co-created, freely accessible E-Learning Platform (ELP) bringing together evidence-based knowledge, practical tools and interactive learning experiences from across Europe. In the course of the past year, the current platform has grown rapidly from concept to content.Â

The development process of the e-learning platform
Work began with the platform’s technical conception in Moodle, giving the team a working prototype from day one. At the Transnational Project Meeting in Valencia (24–26 November 2025), the consortium ran design-thinking workshops using the empathise–define–ideate–prototype–test cycle. During the session WP2’s evidence-based interventions and needs analysis were translated into a shared structure of modules and lessons. Moreover, ideas for interactive elements such as quizzes and branching scenarios have been discussed and validated. From early 2026, partners defined learning objectives, each selecting topics matching their expertise. Content creation officially began in March 2026. At the Treviso meeting (May 2026), partners presented their first elaborated content, before having a look at the current design of the platform. In June and July partners developed interactive elements and quizzes. Currently, the consortium is entering a structured EU peer-review phase, cross-checking and validating each other’s contents.

The SACRED E-learning
The SACRED e-learning platform runs on Moodle, a familiar environment for many European universities, with an early draft version enabling the team to test and refine ideas from the start. The finished platform will comprise seven modules, each with two to four self-paced lessons, plus a built-in accessibility tool and multilingual availability. Notably, SACRED doesn’t split learners into separate tracks — students and professionals share the same evidence-based content, choosing their own pace and depth. Guided by the STIP-Method and a modified Kirkpatrick framework, the content moves learners from understanding and reflecting through to practical application, covering topics from dementia fundamentals to person-centred care, communication, informal caregiving, and interprofessional collaboration. Every lesson of the final platform will combine individual self-learning exercises (such as crosswords or image hotspots) with group-learning elements (such as roleplay or discussion forums), keeping the platform both practical and engaging. Each module closes with a Foundational and an In-Depth quiz, forming the basis for SACRED’s certificates and open badges that can be acquired by completing the platforms learning process.

Next steps
Partners are currently in the peer-review phase, checking content, interactive elements and quizzes for consistency and quality. This autumn, the focus shifts to co-creation workshops across all pilot sites (Rotterdam, Brussels, Valencia, Tenerife and Syros), where students, professionals and informal caregivers will test the platform ahead of technical finalisation and translation.
